First Official Meeting

In this first meeting, we are showed around the shop of the Spartan Superway. There lies the 1/12th scale, half scale and full scale. We are then put into groups, me being assigned to the Full Scale Bogie Team. As we are toured around, Eric, the one in charge, comments that we wont be using the current track design since there are safety issues regarding the current one. In that case, my team is to design a Bogie in which we cater to the new track that we will be basing off of Futran, a company in South Africa. Once we get their CAD models, my team can then progress.

Hey Everyone!

My name is Roger Pacilan and I'm a 5th year Mechanical Engineering student at San Jose State University. This year I'm very excited to be a part of an innovation that will SOON come to San Jose, the Spartan Superway. But first, let me tell you a little about myself.

Born in Oakland and raised in San Leandro, I grew up very infatuated with technology. I've always been the handy one in the family and it feels great to help them fix whatever they need to be fixed (computer, car, TV). One thing I remember as a kid was changing and outlet in the wall which now I realize is not safe at all for a child. Other than that I also really enjoy singing, dancing and learning new instruments.

Although I have yet to work on the Spartan Superway but am VERY excited to work on it! What caught my interest was how innovated and new it was. The concept of it is definitely something the present really needs. I've always been interest in how transportation technology works such as BART, VTA Light Rail and especially bullet trains. This new proposed technology in development of the Spartan Superway is something we'll be able to live and experience. Its the excitement in that process is what gets me.
